Maya Bay is a stunning beach located on the Thai island of Koh Phi Phi Leh. It gained significant popularity after being featured in the movie “The Beach,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The bay is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sandy beach, and impressive limestone cliffs surrounding the area. While Maya Bay is known for its stunning beauty both above and below the water.

 

Hin Bida is situated just south of Phi Phi Leh Island, not far from Maya Bay. It is easily accessible from Phi Phi Don, the main island of the Phi Phi archipelago. The two pinnacles are composed of limestone and granite rock formations that rise dramatically from the seafloor. The underwater topography includes walls, swim-throughs, and crevices, creating an interesting and varied dive environment.

Hin Bida is known for its diverse marine life. The pinnacles attract an abundance of marine species, including colorful reef fish, schools of barracudas, trevallies, and snappers. Divers may also encounter moray eels, lionfish, nudibranchs, and various species of shrimp and crabs. Hin Bida is particularly renowned for its encounters with blacktip reef sharks, which are often spotted in the area.

Coral Reef: The pinnacles of Hin Bida are covered in an array of soft corals, sea fans, and hard corals. The vibrant coral formations provide shelter and feeding grounds for a wide range of marine life. Divers can explore the beautiful coral gardens and appreciate the intricate shapes and colors of the corals.

Diving Conditions: The diving conditions at Hin Bida are generally favorable. Visibility can vary but is often good, ranging from 10 to 25 meters (30 to 80 feet) or more. The water temperature is typically around 27-30°C (80-86°F), making it comfortable for diving with a wetsuit or thin rash guard. Currents can be mild to moderate, offering a suitable diving experience for divers of different skill levels.

Anemone Reef and Shark Point are two adjacent dive sites often visited together. Anemone Reef is a submerged limestone pinnacle covered in colorful anemones and surrounded by vibrant marine life. Shark Point, as mentioned earlier, offers diverse marine encounters, including the chance to see different species of sharks.

Anemone Reef lies just a short distance to the north of Shark Point. When you descend beneath the surface you will soon see how this dive site got its name.
There are thousands of sea anemone covering this coral pinnacle that rises from a depth of 25 meters to 4 meters beneath the surface. Leopard sharks are also a feature of this dive.

 

Prerequisite for divers “PADI Open Water Advanced” or “CMAS 2”.
